Brief History of our Charity
Kusadasi Society for the Handicapped was founded on 5th July 1995 by the Kusadasi Rotary Club, the founding president was Rotary Club President Mehmet Güler. Before the society’s foundation great efforts were made to locate and register handicapped children, by home visits, organising various activities (seminars, fund-raising events, tea parties and meals) the local press. Neighbourhood representatives and families brought the disabled out from behind closed doors.
Following registration of some 15 disabled children Our school was opened the numbers of students quick raised to 45 student levels have remained around this number due partly to our success in improving students abilities so they can move on to full time education within the state system. Another factor is the constraints our existing school places on the number of children we are able to accommodate at anyone time.
In 1999 it was decided the best possible way for us to meet the needs of existing and more students was to relocate to a purpose built education facility, we started on this project and have worked tirelessly since that date with Local Government, Benefactors and the Local community (New Project). We are very close to completing the first phase of our New school. Plans can be found here of the complete project.
We are a registered charity with 100% of our funding coming from the Board, Members, Volunteers, Local and International Business, Private Clubs, Staff Groups, Twin Town, Student Bodies, and the generosity of the Residents of Kusadasi and surrounding areas.
